Full disclosure: I am writing reviews as an affiliate marketer for Amazon. I have not actually tried these products but am reviewing them based on the information available on-line.

That said, the "Espresso Universe" is vast and wide with much information to take in. To get started with a review process, I have chosen the BREVILLE brand because it seems to be a generally popular and respected brand on Amazon.

A peculiar aspect of doing these reviews is that on-line information is not always consistent. I called Breville customer service (1-866-273-8455) to clarify technical details on it's products, and often found that on-line information did not match the companies specifications. So, if you have questions or concerns regarding these products, go to the source directly and confirm with the company.

The price paid for an espresso machine depends on the features provided, so let's start at ground zero and work our way up. The entry level Breville Bambino Espresso Machine, on sale now for $299.99 on Amazon, will produce a well balanced espresso with few options to play with regarding the four basic brewing elements: water, temperature, pressure, and coffee.

Also, size matters! The basic Breville Bambino Espresso Machine, is smaller and more slender than others, which makes it better suited for smaller sized kitchens with limited counter space. A main difference between the Breville Bambino Espresso Machine, and it's more advanced sibling, the Breville Bambino Espresso Plus, currently selling on Amazon for $499.95, is that the Bambino Plus includes features like automatic milk steaming with a few presets to get precise results on the first use.

That automatic milk steaming feature may seem like a small feature to some for difference of $200 in price, but hey, the frothier the better!

  • Breville Bambino: 7.7 in x 12.6 in x 12.2 inches

  • Bambino Plus: 9.6 in x 16.3 in x 16.9 inches

Both The Bambino and The Bambino Plus are equipped with the Breville trademarked Thermojet heating system which claims to use up to 32% less energy annually compared to a Thermoblock heating system. So if you are looking to be more energy efficient, these two makers might be for you.

Lastly, both Bambinos pull the standard 15 bars with optimal 9 bars when brewing that perfect shot. BARS are the barometric pressure that the machine pushes water through the puck while brewing. The puck being the coffee ground package one has prepared for brewing.

In addition to these Breville Bambino family of espresso makers, I have profiled and compared two more makers below and their respective features. At the end of the day (or beginning for that matter) it all depends on the espresso makers tastes, budget, and specificity of espresso maker needs.

When it comes to the mid-level Breville Espresso Machine, the technology and value factors become a bit murkier. When I called customer service about which makers have the Thermojet technology vs. the Thermocoil tech, the rep didn't at first seem to know the difference either.

The advantage of Thermojet is that the coils are thinner, so the water in the machine heats up in three seconds, whereas the older Thermocoil technology has thicker coils that takes up to three minutes to heat. This factor seems to be an important detail when choosing the $849.95 Breville Barista Pro Espresso Machine which features Breville's tradmarked Thermojet technology to it's older sibling, the $749.95 Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine which has Thermocoil technology. This difference alone makes the extra $100 difference in price worth it to buy the Breville Barista Pro Espresso Machine. In addition, the Breville Barista Pro Espresso Machine features a more advanced steaming wand ( 4 hole instead of 1), LCD display, more settings (30 settings instead of 16).

The Breville Barista Pro Espresso Machine has over 2,451 reviews on Amazon with a 4.6 overall rating! Impressive. Over 400+ units have been shipped in the past month.

Here is the recap for the Breville Bambino Espresso Plus:

The Breville Bambino Espresso Plus is a compact and feature-rich espresso maker that caters to both beginners and experienced coffee enthusiasts. Its sleek design and intuitive interface make it a user-friendly option. With a 54mm portafilter, it offers consistency in extraction, producing well-balanced shots. The automatic milk frothing steam wand is a standout feature, allowing for easy creation of velvety microfoam.

In terms of performance, the Breville Bambino Espresso Plus delivers a commendable espresso quality, especially considering its size and price point. The PID temperature control ensures stable water temperature, contributing to consistent extractions. The pre-infusion function further enhances the flavor profile of your shots.

The Bambino also has a ThermoJet heating system, which allows brewing to start in just seconds. With a low-pressure pre-infusion time and a high-pressure extraction, the perfect espresso can be crafted with a 15-bar Italian pump.

Compared to other espresso makers, the Breville Bambino Espresso Plus holds its own in the mid-range category. It strikes a good balance between affordability, features, and performance. While it may not match the capabilities of high-end, commercial-grade machines, it's well-regarded for its value and compactness. If you're looking for an espresso maker that offers convenience without compromising on quality, the Bambino Espresso Plus is a solid choice.

Ultimately, where the Breville Bambino Espresso Plus ranks among espresso makers depends on your specific preferences and needs. It's certainly a contender worth considering if you're seeking an entry-to-mid-level espresso machine with a range of features to elevate your home coffee brewing experience.

Breville Bambino Espresso Plus possesses low pressure pre-infusion followed by 9 bar extraction. An opulent, creamy and caramel colored espresso starts with low pressure pre-infusions, followed by a high pressure (9 bar) extraction process delivered via a 15 bar Italian pump.

The Breville Bambino Espresso Plus has 1,565 reviews on Amazon and over 700+ sold on Amazon in the past month. The makers' slim design makes it super efficient for small counters and limited kitchen space, such as college apartments or shared living quarters. At $499.95, this machine provides all the basics and one receives a good cup of coffee at the beginning, middle or end of your day!
